Our Story

Life's So Bright I gotta wear shades!

I really have so much to be grateful for and want to thank all the people that have supported us in the past and into the future. My story starts sitting on a film shoot, somewhere in Asia, realizing that I wanted to do something more  purposeful with my life. So I moved to southern Colorado where I cut my teeth as a rancher and outfitter. Let me tell you there is nothing better to teach you work ethics and grit, than about 10 years of 16 hour days! My love for old vintage leather started there,  as I was so intrigued with the old 1800's high back saddles and hand tooled parade bridles. I began collecting, and out of this love sprung a creative, and heartfelt  journey that takes me to barns and saddle shops all along the way.  I am always in search of the 1800's teamster driving reins,  and old retired cowboy saddle leather, that was used to form the American West. This job requires hours of reclaiming,  including several sessions of cleaning, conditioning, skiving, sanding and sealing to produce the back drop of my American turquoise cuffs, hatbands, and belts. After too many "Critter Crunches" I left the hard physical work of training young horses, and bucking hay, to pursue my life as a creative, productive artist. (although I still have enough horses to ride!)

When you follow your bliss abundance will follow.

I worked in the Hat industry in Durango, CO at O'Farrell's while healing from my injuries, learned the in's and out's of the hat trade, and began building hatbands there. Hatbands that people could cherish, is really what inspired the whole line. Loving the hand-woven Panama and custom felt hats, I obtained beautiful Panama straws from Ecuador. Having learned the trade of blocking and shaping, we now offer a full lineup  of custom hats. Handcrafting is fast becoming a lost art in our world of instant gratification and over sea factory production, but I have long held fast in continuing to produce everything we offer!

At Brit West our mission is to produce  classic and timeless western art, by hand and with passion! I  am presently  working on new exciting hats, hatbands, cuffs, belts, clothing and leather clothing.  I will always be shooting new product for your enjoyment.  Being a one woman show is empowering, yet, incredibly stressful, so I have been seeking out other artisans to help with the line. I call them my "woman in seed" as their and my craft improve in design and passion.

I am shooting all the pics for the web and the advertising now, which has opened a whole new avenue for creativity. As I learn the art of photography the site will only grow and get better!  This excitement of a creating new beautiful products, that started as just an image in my mind's eye, really drives me.  I have learned  that focusing on what we choose to create, and being  grateful for the blessings along the way, is the key to our success.

Again I want to thank everyone who has helped us along the way, and  thank you for allowing us  to create for you!

Made in the USA, by hand, with love, better yet made in Wyoming!
